On Your Bike 3rd July 2011

Members of the Friends of Harewood and staff of the school completed a sponsored bike ride on Sunday 3rd July 2011, the event was organised by Paul Stevens (known
as Frank at the school) and he personally collected sponsorship of over £340. All those participating or supporting the event arrived at Pedalabikeaway, Cannop Colliery before 10.00am and were there for approximately four hours.

The cyclists had the choice of completing one circuit of the route (12 miles) or two circuits (24 miles) resting at the start before setting off again, children at the school were given the option to help raise money prior to this event by participating in a non-uniform day, this event was held on Friday 1st July with each child paying £1.

UPDATE - The money raised from both the bike ride and non-uniform day came to just over £1,000.

Fallen at the Last Hurdle 4th May 2011

The Friends of Harewood had to cancel the planned Race Night on Thursday 5th May 2011 with only one day to go due to the lack of support, only 35 tickets had been sold and unfortunately a number of Friends of Harewood members were unable to attend as well. It is hoped that there will be more support later in the year so this event may be rescheduled early in the new academic year.

Offer of FREE Amazon Vouchers 17th January 2011

The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) is recruiting a Pupil and Parent Voice panel. This is a panel of parents, primary school children and secondary school children who they would like to involve in educational research. As a reward for completing each survey, the NFER is offering your household points (with a redeeming value of £2) per survey which can be redeemed as Amazon vouchers.

The mission of the NFER is to make a positive difference to learners of all ages, especially the lives of children and young people, by ensuring their work improves the practice and understanding of those who work with and for learners. The Pupil and Parent Voice panel w
ill give pupils and parents a chance to have their say on a wide range of educational issues and influence policy and practice.

Research will predominantly be done in the form of online surveys which typically last no longer than 15 minutes. There is no obligation to complete surveys once you are signed up to the panel. Parents with children in any year at school can sign-up themselves, another parent/carer/guardian and up to four children, all from the same household. Children signed up to the panel must be attending schools in years 3-13.

For each household that is signed up to the panel, NFER will donate £2 to the Friends of Harewood which will then be used to benefit your children. If you do not want the Amazon vouchers for completing the surveys, you have the option to donate the points to the Friends of Harewood or a selection of charities. To register visit www.nfer.ac.uk/panel and follow the simple instructions, you will be asked for a PTA reference code, which is GP366.

It's in the Bag 22nd September 2010

Many parents struggled into school on the morning of Wednesday 22nd September with bags of unwanted clothing, soft toys, shoes, bed linen, hats, belts and handbags to help raise much needed funds for the school.

These collections are a way of clearing out your wardrobes, cupboards and drawers by filling the blue bags which are brought into school, the bags are collected from the school and taken away to be weighed. The amount of weight will determine the amount of money raised for the school - the total amount of funds raised by this collection will be announced in due course.
